Stopped working. Changed batteries but screen still blank

This boiler remote control arrived safely form Kent and on testing was found to be working as per normal (see image)
The most common reason for a dead remote after changing the batteries is due to the incorrect orientation of the batteries due to the misleading "spring" terminals making people think that all batteries should be inserted negative towards the springs, this is not the case (its a bad battery housing design). Please see the correct orientation in the image below.
