Battery has leaked - also where 2Aa batts are inserted - a piece of metal is missing .

 

This Sony remote arrived safely and on first inspection the battery compartment had signs of battery leakage as stated by the customer.

When the handset was opened the leakage was found to have spread to most of the board causing print damage (see image), this was cleaned up and the print reworked, full functionality was restored.
