Customer's Fault Description
Doesn't work. Did work intermittently, now not at all. Metal block that had been glued to back of circuit board was loose inside. Battery connections are very badly designed, but investigation seems to indicate that this isn't the problem
Remote Fixer Repair Response
This Audio Research PreAmp remote control arrived safely from London and on inspection was totally disassembled.
On closer inspection there was signs of a battery leak corrosion. There were no open circuits but the remote was dead. After a component test was carried out the oscillator was replaced and the IC solder reflowed, this restored full functionality.
The battery cover is missing one of its retaining clips, this cannot be replaced and therefore tape must be used to hold it in place.
