Even with a brand new Duracell 9v battery, the remote reports a low battery and fails to operate the fire

This Gas Fire Remote Control arrived safely from Petersfield and on testing was confirmed to have a faulty regulator.  

The regulator and battery indicator was replaced which restored full functionality.
