Customer's Fault Description
The remote unit gradually lost range and before it stopped working completely would only work with a brand new battery right next to the fan unit. The light still goes on on the remote unit however.
There are no manual buttons on the fan but when the wall switch power is left on it has always occasionally turned on randomly - it still does this so the problem is not with the fan. The problem could be the receiver rather than the remote but I suppose the remote is the more likely to get damaged etc being a mobile object.
Remote Fixer Repair Response
This remote controller for a Cooker extractor fan with lights (Luxair brand circa 2008 model) arrived safely from Clitheroe and on testing waas foudn to have an extremely dim LED and weak signal.
The voltage reaching the PCB from a brand new battery was tested at 7volts instead of the 12volts.
This was caused by a micro corrosion spot on one of the terminals which was causing an electrical resistance.
The terminal was etched clean which when retested was found to have restored full functionality.
