Remote doesn’t work even with new batteries

This remote control arrived safely from London and on inspection the battery cover was missing 3 of its screws and was held in placeby 1 screw and a rubber band.
On testing the remote was found to transmit on each button as per normal operation.
The remote was tested randomly over a 2 day period with no fault being found.
It is possible that the issue is with the receiver itself.
