Customer's Fault Description
We have exactly the same fault as described on your Gazco 8455 repair details page! The remote is not operating the gas valve which still works fine on manual. Battery replacement makes no difference. Last winter we noticed that the remote began working again after a while when the fire had fully warmed up. This sounds exactly like the faulty oscillator issue you identified when heated with a soldering iron.
Remote Fixer Repair Response
This Gazco 8455 remote and receiver arrived safely from Horsham and on inspection the remote was found to intermittently not transmit a signal but unfortunately the receiver was found to have suffered a battery leak.
Due to the receiver suffering a battery leak a repair is not possible. These items was become dangerous when a leak has occurred in that the fire can be turned on without human intervention. We can only recommend replacements.
A google search was carried out and replacements can be found here - https://ebay.us/PgoIJp - Please check with the seller for further information.
After talking to the customer it was requested to repair the remote, this was done. The transducer was replaced as well as all 3 buttons and the battery cable.
This item will be returned with the receiver, we can only recommend to NOT use the receiver.
