This recliner remote control arrived safely from Linton and on inspection was found to have had an attempted opening prior to arrival with us, the silicon edging was detached.  The cable was damaged and the button contacts were worn.

A replacement straight cable was fitted (we cannot get the curly kind) and then conductive pads glued into place under each of the main buttons.
