Fell on the floor and is dead since. Replaced batteries but that didn't help.

THis Mertik Maxitrol B6R-H8TL3W remote control arrived safely from Belgium and on testing was confirmed to be dead.

This was due to a SMD diode breaking away from the PCB.  The diode was replaced which restored full functionality.
