Quad 77 System Console Remote Repair Details
Manufacturer : Quad
Model : 77 System Console
Customers Fault Description : Control started being intermittent, cured with a reset, but has now locked up totally. This may be to do with the rechargeable batteries (soldered onto the board) failing - this was the issue last time it was repaired by Quad (who no longer service them). I think that the internal NiCad batteries were replaced with NiMH batteries at this service.
Remote Fixer Repair Response (see below) :
This Quad controller arrived safely and on inspection was found to rattle when shook and was dead.
On opening there were screws and plastic loose around inside the control from the mounting fixings.
When these were removed the remote sprang to life, it is thought that the metal was shorting out parts of the remote.
Spare cases are not available which has meant that only one mounting screw is present to hold the item together. The remote was reassembled then Pvc taped used around the edging but care must be taken as the plastic is brittle on this device.
