Customer's Fault Description
The remote works , but the LCD screen is intermittently blank. It was like this with a loose connection when we got the fire, but over time it has gradually got worse and now the LCD screen is off more often than it is on. I have memorised the buttons, so I can still control the fire even if I can't see the screen.
Remote Fixer Repair Response

This remote arrived safely and on testing the screen was initially blank, eventually it started to flicker and die again.

The battery compartment has signs of a battery leak (white crystalized acid was found on the underside of the case.

The board itself doesn't seem to have physical corrosion from the leak.  The screen and edge connecting carbon block was replaced but the issue remained.  After a component test was carried out it was concluded that the main IC is at fault (probing the pins of the IC would make the fault come and go).  These ICs are custom programmed items and are not available as spares making a repair not possible.
