DRU Remote Repair Details
This Mertik Maxitrol Gas Fire remote control arrived safely and on testing was confirmed to be dead.
On opening a voltage test revealed that the 3.3v regulator was outputting the correct voltage.
The oscillator was replaced which did restore functionality but unfortunately after a few minutes the remote would die again. The display was then swapped out with a replacement which again restored functionality but for only a few minutes.
It was eventually concluded that the issue is the main IC which is situated under the display. It appears that the heat from soldering makes the remote work, and this has led to the main IC being at fault. Sadly, a repair has not been possible in this instance.
It is possible to obtain a replacement equivalent remote on ebay - https://ebay.us/53GlaO , it is best to search using the model number of the receiver in the gas fire itself.
