Customer's Fault Description
The handset cable is badly damaged, with the plastic covering falling off.
Remote Fixer Repair Response
This remote arrived safely and on inspection was found to have a damaged cable and worn button contacts.  A replacement straight cable was fitted and then replacement conductive pads were glued under the main buttons.  The rest of the remote was then tested as ok.
