Not working at all despite changing batteries

This fireplace controller arrive safely and on testing was found to be transmitting as per normal operation.
One of the battery terminals had signs of corrosion but as this was not causing a fault it has been left.
This item has been classed as no fault found. The customer is to test the remote with brand new batteries (check the expiry date on the batteries are in date). Failing that the issue could be with the receiver itself.
