Customer's Fault Description
Down button not working and battery connector damaged.
Remote Fixer Repair Response

This fireplace handset arrived safely and on testing the down button was found not to be actuating also the battery cable was found to be damaged.

There was some contamination around the bottom button.  The button was replaced and the PCB cleaned up and also the battery cable replaced which restored full functionality.
