Think something has rusted due to rainwater ingress. Seems to be a positive terminal missing.
Remote Fixer Repair Response

This motor move controller arrived safely and on inspection was confirmed to have a missing battery terminal, the terminal was replaced which restored full functionality.  Please note that whenever the remote is not used for long periods it is best to remove the batteries to prevent future damage
