No display on remote despite changing battery and not working

 

This Dru remote control for a fireplace arrived safely.  There was a battery included but this was drained of all power, a new battery was fitted and still there was no function on the remote.

When the handset was opened there was a surprising little resident inside.  A spider had nested within the remote and built its cobweb over sensitive parts of the PCB. This was effectively shorting out the Display which is what was causing the drained battery and dead functionality.

The spider was removed along with all its webbing and some solder joints were re soldered due to signs of dry joints.  Full functionality was restored.

 

This is the first time i have found a spider nesting in a remote and its quite fitting that it arrived around Halloween
