Remote is dead, nothing works

 

This Sony handset arrived safely, on providing a power source the remote remained dead with no display or infra red signal being emitted.

When the remote was opened there were signs of a liquid contamination around the battery compartment and also on the rubber keypad.

This was cleaned off and alcohol bathed and full functionality was restored.
