A wire has become loose inside the remote handset and appears to require some soldering work

 

This Kinder remote arrived safely.  Upon opening the battery compartment it was confirmed that the battery cable was faulty and the lead was hanging loose.

The entire battery clip was replaced and full functionality was restored.
