Completely dead as if batteries are flat

 

This remote arrived safely and on testing was found to be totally dead / non transmitting.

Upon opening the handset there was a crystallized contamination around the terminals and pcb. this had eaten through one of the legs of the crystal oscillator.  This was replaced with a new one and full functionality was restored.
