The remote will not function despite my having replaced the 2 batteries

This Sony handset arrived safely.

On adding a power source that remote was found to be transmitting on all button presses.  The remote was opened to see if there was any signs of a dry joint / crack in the print etc that could cause an intermittent fault but no problem could be found and it has not been possible to replicate a fault.  Therefore it is concluded that it is highly possible that the receiver may be at fault.
