Unfortunately the black pad, which the battery fixes into, has become damaged (one of the fittings broke off). The remote itself worked fine.
This remote control for a gas fire arrived safely.
On inspection it was confirmed that the battery clip had broken meaning the handset could not be powered up. This clip and cable was replaced with a new one and full functionality was restored.
