This Fire remote control arrived safely.  On powering the remote there was no infra red signal being emmited from the handset on either button press.

 When opened it was noted that there was some corrosion on one of the battery terminals (see image) and this corrosion had contaminated the cable.  The terminal was cleaned up and the lead replaced.  Full functionality was restored.
