Remote does not communicate with player - probably not even transmitting IR

 

This audio system remote arrived safely.  On inspection the battery cover was missing and there were signs that the remote had been tried to be opened due to bad scarring around the entire edge of the handset.

On powering the handset the remote was not transmitting on any button press.  When opened the problem was found to be a faulty crystal oscillator.

This was replaced and full functionality was restored.
