No response from remote when any buttons are touched

 

This remote arrived safely and on adding a power source was found to be totally dead.  When the battery lead was moved the display temporarily illuminated.

 

This was due to be a faulty battery cable, there was also some contamination around the main ic (see image) this was cleaned and the cable replaced.  Full functionality was restored.
