IR Remote not working

 

This Polaroid handset arrived safely and on testing was found to not be transmitting a signal on any button press.

On opening the controller there was no imediate signs of the cause of the problem.  A continuity and component check was carried out and again no issue could be found.  It was almost condemed as a non repairable job when just before putting the item back together it was noticed a tiny amount of contamination on 2 of the pins of the main I.C. this was cleaned up and functionality was restored, this contamination must have been shorting the pins.
