This Denon controller arrived safely and was confirmed to be transmitting on all buttons except the volume controls.

When the handset was opened the issue was clear.  There was a liquid contamination over the 2 buttons (see image).  This liquid was cleaned off using alcohol and the rubber pads washed down, full functionality was restored.
