This Sony handset arrived safely and on adding a power source was working intermittently on certain buttons.

On opening the control it was noticed that there were signs of a battery leakage around the bottom of the PCB. Also there was some contamination on the button array.

Both was cleaned up by giving the pcb an alcohol bath and the rubber pads cleaned using soap.  Once cleaned there was also a couple of corroded solder joints where the leakage was found.

These were resdoldered and full functionality was restored.

It is strongly recommended that the batteries used previously be replaced with non leaking type such as Duracell to prevent any future issues.
