Battery compartment corroded and red (recejver) Led keeps burning (when connected with an external powersupply)

 

This receiver arrived from the Netherlands and on first inspection it had no battery compartment cover and the compartment itself was very badly corroded.

The battery compartment was replaced and partial functionality was restored but there was a range problem, this was remedied by replacing the ultrasonic transducer.
