the black wire has become disconnected from the battery terminal plus the two left hand buttons do not work properly - they have to be pressed very hard to make them work.

 

This fireplace control arrived safely and was confirmed to have faulty buttons and a faulty battery cable.

All 4 buttons and the cable were replaced and full functionality was restored.
