No led light response from any button

 

This gas fire controller arrived safely and on adding a power source was found to not be responding on any button press.  This was found to be due to a faulty battery cable, this was replaced but another problem was present.  One of the buttons was faulty.  It was decided to replace all four buttons and full functionality was restored.
