Was completely inoperable. basic investigation suggests acid damage to battery contacts.

 

This is car entertainment controller arrived and was in pieces (see image).  The main issue found was that one of the battery terminals had corroded away due to a battery leakage.  A replacement was fitted and the control re-assembled, full functionality was restored.
