the remote works once but then stops. I have to take battery out, then reset it on the circuit board, then it starts working again (but even that's intermittent!)

 

This Creda shower controller arrived safely and on inspection was found to have contamination on one of its button pads (see image).  This was cleaned up as well as the battery terminals.
