This Maha controller arrived safely and on inspection something was loose inside as it rattled when shook.

The item was dead.  On opening there were 3 components that had come away from the PCB, a capacitor, oscillator and buzzer.

All were refitted back onto the board this restored full functionality.  Please note that the internal battery is drained and therefore will require charging before this item can be used.
