The remote just doesn't seem to work and I have broken the battery connector trying to remove the battery.

This fireplace controller arrived safely and on inspection the battery cable was confirmed to be broken, a replacement was fitted and then it was found that the buttons were faulty, all four button were replaced which restored full functionality.
