This Marantz remote arrived safely and on testing was confirmed to have bad volume buttons.  On opening this was found to be due to the buttons "Sweating" and contaminating the button contacts.  This was rectified by cleaning up the buttons and contacts and then gluing new conductive pads onto the button pads, effectively creating a barrier against contamination from button sweat.
