Black wire connecting the battery has come adrift from the battery clip.
Remote Fixer Repair Response

This remote control arrived safely from Dorset and on inspection was confirmed to have a damaged battery cable making the remote dead.

The battery cable was replaced which restored full functionality and now powers up on each power button double press.
