Battery indicator shows low charge even with new battery. So appears to give no strength for transmitting and the fire won't ignite

This Mertik maxitrol fireplace remote control arrived safely from Sandbach and on testing was foudn to have an erroneous battery indicator and weak signal.
The regulator was replaced as well as the battery cable which restored full functionality.
