The handset doesn't turn the fire on.
Remote Fixer Repair Response

This Gas fire remote control arrived safely and on testing was found to have non fuinctioning buttons and the battery terminals had signs of a battery leak.

On opening there was contamination from the battery leak over the button contacts, this was all cleaned up and then replacement conductive pads glued under each button. This restored full functionality.
