Only works from very close proximity (touching distance) to the receicer. Both receiver and remote have new batteries in them

 

This fireplace control arrived safely and on testing was confirmed not to be transmitting.

This was found to be due to a faulty ultrasonic transducer, a replacement was fitted and full functionality was restored.
