there are 2 wires in the battery, one red and one black, the black wire in the battery pack is loose and therefore not connected,
Remote Fixer Repair Response

This fireplace control arrived safely and on inspection was confirmed to have a broken battery cable.  A replacement cable was fitted which restored full functionality.

Please note that the included battery was flat and has been disposed of.
