Customers Fault Description : Unit not working at all! Tried new battery - still nothing.

This infra red Verine / Mertik Maxitrol fireplace controller arrived safely and on testing was confirmed dead.
This was found to be due to a faulty 40khz crystal. This was replaced which restored full functionality.
