Remote sometimes close gas valve but will not open valve

This fireplace control and receiver arrived safely and on inspection both the remote and receiver had suffered from a battery leak / corrosion damage (see images)

The remote would intermittently transmit, this was rectified by replacing hte badly corroded cable.  The battery block and crystals were replaced in the receiver which restored functionality but sadly this failed after a few hours.  When the receiver is heated with a soldering iron it would sprint to life for a short while, because of this a diagnosis is not possible.  This has deemed a repair non possible.
